The concept of a Community Portal for Campbell River area is not a new concept for our community.
Many individuals and organizations have given their thoughts on how this task might be accomplished and what it might eventually look like. Former Mayor Roger McDonell chaired the committee for the development of the site you see today in the interests of the residents of our community. Current Mayor Charlie Cornfield is very much in support of the growth of the Community Portal site.
Participating in ongoing discussions to decide on the beginning format and initial content of the Community Portal were the following groups:
- Campbell River Economic Development, Rivercorp
- Visitor Centre
- Tourism Campbell River & Region
- City of Campbell River
- Campbell River Volunteer Centre
- Campbell River and District Chamber of Commerce
The portal is built using Microsoft SharePoint 2007. The City website has also been built using Microsoft SharePoint 2007. The technology allows up to 1999 websites to be hosted under a single portal license. The initial Community Portal offering includes Portal Home, RiverCorp, ActiveCampbellRiver and Spirit of British Columbia Campbell River sites. The City website will be coming up under the portal framework soon after the portal site is live. Other sites are planned for the near future.
